"אֵיכָה יָעִיב בְּאַפּוֹ אֲדֹנָי אֶת-בַּת-צִיּוֹן"
איכה ב, א

אֵיכָה נִפְרְמָה בְּרִית נוֹשָׁנָה?
חוּטֵי הַזִּכְרוֹנוֹת מִתְפַּזְּרִים סְבִיבֵךְ.
הָיוּ שֶׁנִּשְׁזְרוּ לָךְ בַּגֵּנִים, בַּמַּבָּטִים, בַּשְּׁתִיקוֹת,
הָיוּ שֶׁנִּרְקְמוּ לְמִלִּים גְּבוֹהוֹת:
יְרֻשַּׁת דּוֹרוֹת,
שִׁבְרִי לוּחוֹת.
וְהָיָה חוּט עָדִין בִּמְיֻחָד
שֶׁנִּמְתַּח עַל מִגְרַשׁ הַמְּסַדְּרִים וְנִשְׁבַּע
לֹא לְהַשְׁאִיר פָּצוּעַ בַּשָּׂדֶה. 

אַתְּ אוֹחֶזֶת בָּהֶם בַּעֲדִינוֹת,
מְנַסָּה לְהַתִּיר אֶת הַסְּבַךְ,
לְגַלְגֵּל לְכַדּוּר בְּרִית גּוֹרָל וּבְרִית יִעוּד,
וּפִיךְ מְמוֹלֵל תְּפִלָּה בַּת זְמַנֵּךְ:

Alas! How the ancient covenant has unraveled!
The threads of memories are scattered around you.
Some were woven into you through the genes, the looks, the periods of silence,
Some were embroidered into lofty words:
Generations of legacy shared,
Stone tablets shattered.
And an especially thin thread
Stretched over the parade ground swore
Not to leave the wounded in the field.

You hold them delicately,
Trying to unravel the tangle,
To roll the covenant of fate and the covenant of destiny into a ball,
Your mouth murmuring a modern-day prayer:
