Genesis 34:2

וַיַּרְא אֹתָהּ שְׁכֶם בֶּן חֲמוֹר הַחִוִּי נְשִׂיא הָאָרֶץ וַיִּקַּח אֹתָהּ וַיִּשְׁכַּב אֹתָהּ וַיְעַנֶּהָ.
בראשית ל"ד, ב

To all the women who sit in safety,
in air-conditioned offices,
clicking their tongues, refusing to believe;
to all who choose to deny,
to ignore,
to look past.

To all who demand an orderly testimony:
they saw them,
they took them,
they raped them.

Between one word and the next — a deathly silence;
between one word and the next — shards of stories too numerous to count:
her in her home,
her at the party,
her on the path,
her in the open door of the car left running —
all of them before eyes forced to look:
infants,
girls,
young women,
mothers,
grandmothers —
all were raped on that same Shabbat.

They will not tell a coherent story.
The timeline of one who survived
was shattered in those hours;
past and future lost all meaning and all hold.
Only the unending terror of the present remains:
a broken pelvis,
large bloodstains on thighs,
hollow eyes,
a hiding soul —
they are a screaming testimony:
they saw them,
they took them,
they lay them,
they raped them.

They collapse at the threshold of our home,
their hands on the sill,
and they have no one to save them.
